10 Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

10 Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

Can you believe Halloween is this coming Friday? If you’re panicking because you still haven’t got your costume sorted, don’t worry!  I scoured the internet for you and rounded up ten of my favorite Halloween costume ideas below. Some of them are cute, some of them are quirky and some of them just a tad spooky. The best thing is though, most of these costumes can easily be put together at home using stuff you already own!

And if all else fails you can always dress up as a witch, zombie or vampire. After all, they’re classic costumes for a reason ;)

♥ The Princess Bride

I’ve always loved that movie but somehow I’ve never thought to dress up as Buttercup! Silly me. All you need really is a medieval style princess dress and most costume shops have those! It also makes for a very cute couple’s costume, although I think I’d have to work on my honey to make him say ‘as you wish’ with as much conviction as Wesley. Oh well, practice makes perfect ;)

 ♥ Mary Poppins

How cute is this costume? Don’t you just want to break into song and sing ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ just looking at it?! I think it could easily be recreated at home using a white shirt, skirt and umbrella you already own. Then all you’d need is a cute hat and a bow.

♥ Maleficent

Ok so this one is a little bit more involved as you’ll need to rent a costume and do the makeup as well, but it’s such a great costume that it’s worth it don’t you think? Also, Maleficent is such a popular Halloween theme this year that you’ll probably have no trouble finding a costume for it.

♥ Suzy Bishop and Sam Shakusky from Moonrise Kingdom

This is another great idea for couples and I love that it’s a little quirky too. If you’re a Wes Anderson fan then you could also dress up as Margot from The Royal Tenenbaums.

♥ Effie Trinket from The Hunger Games

Of course, you could go for Katniss Everdeen (also a great costume) but if you feel like something a little more fun and creative then Effie is definitely your girl. Just look at that bling…

Check this great guide on how to achieve the look.

♥ Piper Chapman from Orange Is The New Black

If you’re a fan of the series (who isn’t?) then this might just be the perfect costume for you. It’s also another one that should be easy to shop for this year.

♥ Wednesday from The Addams Family

A true Halloween classic and one that it’s easy to reproduce with a dark dress worn over a white collared shirt. Some braids, a little white powder, and you’re done! Don’t forget the evil stare though, that’s very important…

♥ Bandits

I have plenty of black pants and striped tops in my wardrobe so the closer we get to Halloween and the more this costume option is moving right to the top of my list. Plus, it’s a pretty adorable couple’s costume.

♥ Rosie the riveter

You can do it! (with a bandana, blue shirt and jeans that is).

♥ Fiona Goode from American Horror Story

I could have probably listed all of the  characters from AHS here as the show is a trove of Halloween costume inspiration. However, my personal favorite is probably this classy ensemble donned by Jessica Lange in Coven. After all, if you’re going to be a witch then you might as well be a supreme one.

  • We travel a lot and have been in the US quite a few times over Halloween. Dressing up is fun but the way many Americans decorate the outside of their houses for Halloween is just fabulous. I noticed today a few houses in Sydney have been decorated so maybe it’s catching on here.

    • It’s one of my mini dreams to visit the US during Halloween, I’d love to see the houses etc. Someone said to me last week that Halloween is a big deal in their neighborhood so hopefully things are catching on in Melbourne too xx

  • Ooh, I love the Princess Bride, Twue lub to you, but had never thought to dress like that either! You just solved my dilemma for Saturday week, thank you! What a gorgeous collection. I love the bandits too x
