French Palmiers (Elephant Ears)

Whenever I have last minute guests and need to whip up a quick appetizer I always make Palmiers (aka Elephant ears). They’re not only super quick and easy to make (you can have a batch done in 15-20mins) but they can also be adapted to suit whatever items you have handy in your kitchen pantry. Last year, I shared my favorite recipe for savoury Palmiers so this time I thought I’d show you how to make sweet Palmiers to accompany a coffee or tea date!

♥ 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed but still cold.
♥ 3/4 cup sugar

Yummy idea: add a teaspoon of cinnamon and a tablespoon of orange zest to your sugar mix.

♥ Pre-heat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

♥ Sprinkle half of the sugar on a clean working surface. Place your pastry sheet on top of the sugar and gently press on the dough so that the sugar sticks to the bottom. Now cover the top of the pastry with the rest of the sugar.

♥ Fold both pastry sides half way towards the center (see picture below). Then fold the sides again until they meet in the middle. Finally, fold one side onto the other as if you were closing a book.

♥ Cut the dough into 2 cm slices and place them onto a baking tray lined with non-stick cooking paper.

♥ Cook for 10mins or until lightly golden.

♥ Enjoy!
