Postcards From The French Riviera & Monaco

After getting a wonderful dose of snow and mountains for Christmas, the family and I then headed to the South of France to celebrate New Year’s Eve. We were beyond lucky with the weather (it’s pretty much been raining everyday since I came back to Melbourne which I figure is only fair) so to be honest it felt more like Spring than Winter the whole time we were there. Here are a few snapshots I took along the way!

Le Trayas

Our time spent at my family’s holiday home in ‘Le Trayas’ (a teeny tiny village located about 20 km from Cannes) was pretty much divided between eating, playing pétanque and waiting for apéritif time on our sun-drenched terrace. I know – it’s a hard life! We did squeeze in a few walks around the coast into our very busy schedules though and were rewarded with the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets ever. Take me back!

Cannes

We went to nearby Cannes for a bit of window shopping and a walk on the Croisette.

Of course as a good tourist I couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to take a photo on the famous ‘Cannes Festival’ steps. For a whole minute, I felt like a movie star. Well, not really. But it was still fun to pretend :)

Monaco

The highlight of our riviera stay was definitely our day trip to Monaco. I hadn’t been there since I was a child so it was great to rediscover this beautiful principality with my honey.

We walked around Monte Carlo and admired its iconic Casino before heading to the port and enjoying a few treats at the Christmas market (which was still on because you know, everyday is Christmas day in Monaco).

Finally, we visited the car museum which houses Prince Rainier III’s vintage car collection. The cars were a-ma-zing and Mark immediately dubbed the place ‘car heaven’.

My favorite of the lot was probably this 300SL Mercedes. I’m still driving it in my dreams…

After a great week on the Cote d’Azur it was time to start our journey back to Melbourne – but not before a three day stop in Venice! Pictures coming soon…

A bientôt!
