Pretty Mayhem’s Top 10: Housewarming Gifts

Housewarming gifts Although you should never feel like you have to bring a gift to a housewarming party I think that it’s always a nice touch. I’ve received some pretty cool home gifts from my friends over the years  and I always try to return the favor by bringing a little something along to their party too. I don’t necessarily spend a lot of money on these gifts but I do like to pick things which I think could be useful or fun. If you’re currently looking for ideas, here are 10 items which I think would make lovely housewarming gifts – I’ve also included a couple of DIY ideas in case you feel like putting something together yourself!

1- A terrarium. Terrariums are all the rage at the moment which is understandable since they’re so darn cute! I love this hanging planter DIY by A Beautiful Mess but alternatively you could just fill a fish bowl with a bit of soil, pebbles and pretty succulents and call it a day!

2- A Spice gift pack. If your friends enjoy cooking then a collection of nice spices could be the perfect gift for them. If you live in Australia you could pick up one of these lovely ‘themed’ spice packs from Gewurzhaus (they have many themes available such as BBQ, Curry, Mexican etc) or you could create your own ‘spice pack’ at home to suit your friend’s taste.

3- A Lime or lemon tree. My husband’s boss gave us a lime tree for our housewarming and we both thought it was a great idea. Did someone say margaritas? I’ve also seen some people on Pinterest add in a few coronas and fresh lemons to the bottom of their mini tree which looks really cute.

4. Cards against humanity. I know I keep going on about this game but what can I say? It’s awesome! (nb. some people might view this game as slightly offensive so make sure you give it to the right people).

5- A Takeaway organizer. I’m just going to put it out there – I would really love one of these for my own house. My takeaway menus are just sitting in a drawer right now and it’s just a sad mess really. If you want to go the extra mile then how about printing the menus of a few places located near your friends’ new house?

6- A fun cocktail book. I really like the concept behind this Cocktail Book which combines cocktails and literary references.

7- Stylish wine tags. I don’t know about you but I’m constantly losing my wine glass at parties and accidentally picking up other peoples (and no, it’s not because I’m tipsy). Wine tags can sometimes look a bit ‘naff’ but I really like the look of these ones by Kate spade.

8- Pretty glasses. I’ve seen a few of these sparkly glasses around lately but I particularly love these ones from West Elm. Glasses often get broken at parties so they’re always a useful gift.

9- A Soda stream. When I went back to France in June I was surprised to see that every house I visited had a Soda Stream in their kitchen, they’re obviously back in fashion! I think it would make a really fun group gift and those machines are so great to have around in the summer!

10. A slate cheese board. These are a nice alternative to wood boards to serve cheese etc. You can even write the name of the cheeses on the board which makes it extra useful.

Otherwise, you can never go wrong with home-baked goods, a bottle of wine or even just a helping hand in the kitchen :)

Happy partying!

What is the best gift you ever got at a housewarming party? What are some of your go-to housewarming gifts?

  • I love these ideas! I’ll admit I haven’t been as creative in this department as I could be. I usually stick to wine!

    • Erica: I personally LOVE getting wine (spoken like a true French girl, huh?) but I thought it could be fun to look at other ideas too. At the end of the day it’s the thought that counts:)Thank you so much for stopping by again!

  • A pineapple is one of my favourite things to give as a housewarming treat! In Hawaii, pineapples are a sign of hospitality, so it’s a great little gift to give – and a delicious, healthy dessert as well!
