When I was in Singapore a few months ago, I got to try my first ever ‘Singapore Sling’ cocktail. To be honest I felt a little bit like a walking cliche ordering it there (I can only imagine how many tourists ask for that drink in Singapore) but as soon as I tasted it I really didn’t care anymore. It was fruity and sweet and most importantly, very refreshing…a love at first sip if you will.
With the sun shining so brightly today, I thought it was the perfect time to revisit my new favorite cocktail and share the recipe with you!
I should probably warn you though; the Singapore Sling packs in quite a few ingredients so whilst it’s delicious it’s also a little dangerous. One cocktail is definitely enough (alright maybe two, but don’t say you weren’t warned…)
Singapore Sling (adapted from the original Raffles Hotel recipe in Singapore)
Ingredients (makes one)
30 ml gin
15 ml Cherry Heering* (or Cherry Brandy)
7.5 ml Benedictine liquor
7.5 ml Cointreau (or triple sec)
100 ml Pineapple juice
7.5 ml grenadine*
A squeeze of lime juice
Maraschino cherry and a slice of pineapple to garnish.
NB: If you’d like to cut down on the ingredients then you could omit the Cherry Heering and Grenadine and simply use 15ml of the marashino cherries’ juice instead.
♥ Combine all of the liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker half filled with ice.
♥ Shake well and strain into a tall glass.
♥ Garnish with a slice of pineapple, a cherry, and add more ice if desired.
♥ Enjoy responsibly x
