This ‘Fast Times’ edition comes 2 days late (sorry!) which really shows what a crazy busy month it’s been. My honey and I made our big move to Melbourne and even though we’re completely new to the city we still managed to pack in quite a bit of action in the last three weeks.
Here are some of my May highlights:
♥ We celebrated our departure with a big weekend away with all our close friends. After possibly too many drinks and questionable dance moves, I watched the sunrise with my friend Melanie and went for a walk on the deserted beach. That was a good day.
♥ I organised a little French Fete at my work complete with berets, stinky cheeses and macarons. Oui, oui!
♥ We had airport good-byes and I managed not to cry. Mark held my hand very tightly when we stepped on the plane and said: ‘A whole new adventure begins!’, to which I replied ‘I need a drink’.
♥ I discovered what it’s like to live in a city with efficient public transport. Hear that New Zealand? Trams, trains and buses that actually take you places. Genius, huh?
♥ Mark and I went to the Luna Park on St Kilda beach. I absolutely adore Luna parks: the smell of cotton candy, cheesy 80’s music, old school carrousels…what more could you want really? Oh, maybe winning one those giant stuffed pandas, I really want one of those.
♥ I fell in love with film costumes all over again when I went to see the ‘Hollywood Costume’ exhibition at the ACMI. Audrey Hepburn obviously had the waist of a ten-year-old, her dress was so tiny!
♥ We saw some pretty amazing graffiti art along Melbourne’s lane-ways.
♥ I stuffed myself with churros – multiple times.
♥ We made the best of the beautiful Autumn weather and walked around the local parks. We also discovered that Melbourne is full of French Bulldogs so if this is not a sign I don’t know what is.
♥ I saw a girl wearing tights as pants on the street which reassured me in my thought that no one should ever do that EVER
♥ I think my favourite thing about Melbourne so far is the selection of really cool unique cafes, bars and restaurants. You know that I am a sucker for themes and man, Melbourne has some pretty amazing themed bars around! So far we’ve been to an amazing basement joint decked like a 1930’s Shanghai bar, a place dedicated to infused Vodka, and a speakeasy bar where you can basically buy anything that’s displayed and even exchange your stuff for beers.
♥ Finally, we had friends visiting from Auckland and Sydney which made me realize how much I’m starting to miss my friends! I think it’s time I joined a class or something and met new people. Actually, can one still make friends in her thirties? I guess we’ll soon find out!
Hope you had an amazing month of May! What were YOUR highlights?
