The Pretty And The Mayhem: March 2014

I have a small confession to make. For the last few months I haven’t really been feeling my ‘Best of the Month’ column. Don’t get me wrong, I love looking back at my favorite moments each month and writing up my gratitude lists but the format of the column always bugged me a little. I felt I was only sharing one side of the coin and although I like to focus on the positive side of things, it made me feel like I might be portraying my life as this series of ‘perfect, happy times’ (which as attractive is at it sounds is definitely not the case :). So I decided to replace my old column with something a little more balanced so that I can share both my monthly highs and the occasional lows.

Without further ado, here’s the first edition of ‘the Pretty and the Mayhem’!

The Pretty

Birthday Parties. I celebrated my first birthday in Melbourne! We invited some of our new Melbourne friends to our house where we all drank lots of wine whilst eating lots of french food. Bliss.

Good reads. I finished reading Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple. Although it’s not the type of book I usually go for I still really enjoyed it. I loved the quirky characters and the epistolary format and some parts of the book had me laughing out loud. Have you read it? What did you think of it?

Dressing up. I started doing the ‘Everyday style challenge‘ with Nikki Parkinson from Styling you which has been a lot of fun. It’s definitely encouraged me to dress up a bit more and to wear every single thing in my wardrobe (as opposed to wearing the same things over and over again like I used to). I post my outfit pics on my Facebook page and Twitter page if you’d like to check them out. You should join too!

Interesting talks. I went to a great talk by Darren Rowse last week (from He talked about his journey as an entrepreneur which was both inspiring and encouraging (yes, it’s possible to make a living from your blog!).

Beautiful Autumn days. In between the expected Autumn rainy days we’ve had some truly gorgeous days in the last month. Let’s hope it lasts a little while longer!

Wedding anniversaries. Mark and I celebrated our three year anniversary this month! I got a little nostalgic and shared some of our wedding pics in this post.

The Mayhem

Sleepless nights. I’m not sure if it’s because of the Mars retrograde or whatever (yes, there’s such a thing) but I’ve been sleeping terribly lately. I’m hoping Camomille tea and going to bed early might do the trick but any advice would be welcome!

Feeling overwhelmed. This is probably linked to the lack of sleep but lately I’ve been unable to focus on anything or to make any decisions. I’m walking around like a zombie and constantly second guessing everything that I do. I really hate being indecisive (it really messes up with my confidence) so it’s been a little bit of a frustrating phase to say the least. Well, at least I hope it’s just a phase. Unless this is just me getting old. (Oh dear. )

Low cash flow. I received an unexpected tax bill last month which put a pretty big dent in my already small savings for our trip to France. Oh well, if you have to live off sandwiches then you might as well do it in France, right?

How was your month of March? Have you got any big plans for April?
